Well it has finally happened. there is enough of us on FaceBook to make a separate group on there. I know what you are thinking "No! not the data mining, evil, corporate machine that is FcukFace"!!!
Sadly it is true.
As you can see this tribe is getting a post every few months at best. Most people are checking their facebook account daily and we can keep a bit better connected that way right now.
If you don't have an account make a fake one like I did. When you go to sign up and it asks for your real full name, most people assume that will be hidden and they can make a nickname. Well that is the catch with facebook. Most people us their real name . I don't because I put "Tall" as my first name and "Neil" as my second. Everyone who I really know still finds me, and it is still a bit more private so your mom /employer/George Bush will have a bit harder time finding you.
Just a thought.
If however you want to protest this move. Well post some shit here. Put up new events. Add some new pics. Send some messages to people and drag them back...maybe it just needs a little energy?
N
PS the FaceBook group is private so you can only find it if you know someone in it. If you want in..find me as per above and I can invite you in.

About two months ago, I fell off the west coast edge of the planet - I did, however, manage to land more or less feet first, in Austin, Texas!
The wandering Blythe, never anywhere, but always popping up, is wandering in a strange -and not so strange- land.

Interestingly, Austin is superficially reminding me of Calgary, where my prairie roots will always lie. City on the edge of cowboyland, with a river, lined with joggers, running through it, nestled at the edge of the hills. Though there are certainly more cowboy hats in town here, and the accents sometimes make me cringe and/or smile, Austin is just like being home. ... Oh, except for the overabundance of Mexican food, the privatized healthcare (alberta's not far off), the wacky weather and Oak trees that never lose their leaves, the near-complete lack of friendly, familiar faces, and the fact that I'm living in the freaking US of A. Damn. Oh, and I can be drug tested at work on a whim. Sweet. Nothing like Freedom.

Besides the occasional panicky feelings that arise from living here, all is quite swell. The city is great. Very lively with lots of alternative folk running rampant. Now that 'winter' is over the weather is making me smile. The garden is planted with a ridiculous amount of veggies, and hell, the days are getting longer. I love that.

For those lightfooted among you, Austin boasts some wicked music festivals and a half-way to Burning Man event in called Flipside. A little west coast energy is always welcome in this neck of the woods. Really.

If not sooner, I'll be sweeping through Calgary and the coast at the end of June. I can't wait to see your beautiful faces!
having some trouble with my swanky new beta mail from hotmail, as all the prompts are in chinese so i thought i could reach the lot of you through tribe, if any one is still on this thing, as tuula mentioned.
Soooooo, i am in the cameron highlands of central malaysia right now with jenna pants. this place is a hill station sitting at around six thousand feet, and very cool for the tropics. it never gets above 20 degrees here, perpetual spring. and thus plenty of vegetables are grown here, but much more so are the tea plantations, which we visited today. aahhh, if only pot were legal, we could do a little crop here and then effectively, rule the world! it was all in my head, right down to the processing which is already in place. anyway, if you even say the word drug here, they will cut off your head- its mandatory!
anyhoo, previously we travelled to penang island and georgetown where the hoyas had a home game against south carolina state. the malaysians were a little short and they knew it. Their coach spotted me in the stands and waved me in to play centre for the last quarter. it was a bit awkward, but once i settled down i put in 12 points and grabbed 10 boards, and we made a come from behind victory that was followed by mad celebration that brought me into the inner circle of the malaysian underground basketball party scene and whirlled and whizzed with alcohol, yelling and ending in radical self-prostration and the inevitable blackout. what a night!
tomorrow it gets serious as we travel to the tolkien capital of kuala lumpur for the highlight of the trip- to kill the prime minister of malaysia!!!!!!! that bastard has been allowing sweatshops that house production lines for adidas, the gap, levis, and tommy hilfiger. Enough with the injustice!! Tomorrow night it ends!
Of course we'll need to make a quick escape and leave the country immediately so we've arranged for an escorted departure to Singapore, where we'll take one of those airport shopping holidays, duty free of course, before flying into the steamy jungles of cambodia to disappear for a little bit. So don't expect any contact then, we'll need to lay low for awhile. Besides we plan to hook up with a medicine man and do some guided iawasca journeying at Angkor Wat for a fortnight to mix it up, before relaxing on the beach on Ko Chang to recover the tan, n'amin? It's back to Bangkok after that and then a quick stopover to make the final approval for the 2008 Beijing summer games, which we'll probably give 'em. Final it's back to Canada to wish you a merry christmas but i can't stray long cause i've got a hot date with a snowy mountain and my new Libtech 171. Not a bad life, eh?
kisses,
FYI my shitty volunteering shifts, if anyone wants to join me, are:
PARKING-Sunday 6am-11am
SITE BEAUTIFICATION-Monday 7am-11am and 1pm-5pm

You can ride/drive/walk/skate/ by her house 24/7 and shop for local organic produce and other foods like braggs and nut butters, put some cash in an envelope, stick it in her mailbox and go on your merry way!! For the details, please go to the Tribal Harmonix tribe and read her post called something like Local food network. You'll see it. Rae is amazing and this is an awesome opportunity to eat organic and cheap.
Of course, don't forget the Saturday farmer's market at trout lake. It closes at 2:00, so get up, grab your bike and go. There's coffee there! Anyone wanna go with me tomorrow?

Clown Posse Rampage- Second Annual! Sat night

Calling all want to be Clowns: This Saturday May 6th is the Second Annual Clown Posse Rampage gathering in Vancouver. If you have ever wanted to dress up as a clown, are a clown-a-phobe and want some heavy hitting behavioural therapy or just like doing things to mess with the 'normal' people then you need to join us. We get all dressed up, get a bit wasted and hit the street of Van!

We are meeting at the organizers house ahead of time to get all suited up so you can either join us there or try to catch up with us as we hit Main st and work our way downtown. Around 8:00 or 9:00 PM we will try to head for Montmontre Cafe at 28th and Main. Now, from this point several options are open and any, all or none of them may actually be acted upon. We could head north on Main and make stops as we see fit. Possibilities include Planet Bingo (although those folks are very serious about their bingo), Uranus (just typing it makes me giggle), and the Whip on into the downtown east-side. The final destination will be the lounge at the Fairmont Hotel.

http://www.fairmont.com/hotelvancouver/

Face paint should be appropriately smeared prior to this final stop.

Important things to remember:

1. Travel should be by foot and/or public transit. I know some of y'all are partial to your bikes and that's fine it just means you miss the public transit experience, which is one of my favourite parts of the night.

2. Nobody is in charge (especially not me). Really.

3. Critical mass is fantastic but don't fret if some clowns let go of the rope to rejoin the posse at another location. Some of my fave clowns are laggers and slackers! Besides I have this vision of a lonely clown or two at the Fairmont with the patrons wondering wtf is up with them. Then gradually the place is overrun with a bunch of clowns and the regulars are completely confused. Hey, maybe we should make up some conference tags and say we're there on business!

4. Keep some extra face paint on you for the randoms that want to join the posse.

5. Expect to be thrown out of somewhere.

6. Be nice to police (did I mention I'm not in charge?)

If you are interested e-mail me back and I can get you more details.

Clown out yo.

Last semester we needed someone to be a volunteer for our homeopathy class as a live case and once again we are doing the same thing. It will be a bit different this time as last time the students took the case (we weren't very good at it) and this time Manon, our insructor will take the case. We, the students, will be silent observers. Manon is an amazing women who is an expert in homeopathy. She knows her medicine!! This is a great opportunity for someone as she will continue on with your case for free!! The catch: you have to be willing to share all in front of 12 students (the first interview and one of the followup interviews). We need someone for this coming Tuesday (April 25) afternoon, or if need be, we can push it back a week to the following Tuesday afternoon (May 2).

Let me know if you are interested!!

If we wnat toi book a place we had best get on it.
First off, anyone NOT going to be here?
For those of us who will be here, it may be painful us but we must begin thinking about what we might like to do.
Johnny, do you want to play for us? How about Neil or Alex? Dont' forget Scooter and Shallow pan, oh yeah.
Ideas?
Let's go! It's fricking New Years people, and with Bush at the helm and Harper possibly stepping in up here, repealing gay marriage rights, environmental protection and Kyoto agreements who knows how long we've got left on this planet that gets treated like a disposable diaper.
Let's go out in STYLE folks, and more importantly TOGETHER.

I loaned Kerri a book when she was here, one I had just read and thought she would enjoy. It’s by Michael Crichton – the guy who wrote Jurassic Park – and it’s called Travels. It is an autobiographical account of his travels throughout the world over the years, told in short stories. It begins when he was a straight laced med school student back east and ends, through many adventures and years later, somewhere around him massaging auras in the western desert.

I will start the circle by donating this book to the tribe. May it fly from Kerri’s hands into the hands of an interested villager…

Greetings and salutations. I continue my random articles approach, this time exploring the meaning behind namaste. Is it long? Yes, long and not always on topic. I was tempted to cut out certain drier portions of the text, but didn't. Read it or skip it, yay(!) freedom of choice. There are gem observations of life and people if you tackle it. AND for nano-attention spanners, again there is some easy points to be had at the end of the text.

May friendship and kindness touch your soul,
Namaste

In much of the world today, people do not shake hands when they
meet. They may hug formally or kiss one another on the cheek, as
in eastern Europe and Arab states. They may bow softly, eyes
turned to the ground, as in Japan and China. The Hawaiian
greeting, termed "honi," consists of placing the nostril gently
beside that of the person greeted, a kind of sharing of breath,
which is life and Pran(a).

For, Hindu(s), of course, the greeting of choice is "Namaste,"
the two hands pressed together and held near the heart with the
head gently bowed as one says, "Namaste." Thus it is both a
spoken greeting and a gesture, a Mantr(a) and a Mudr(a). The
prayerful hand position is a Mudr(a) called Anjali, from the root
Anj, "to adorn, honor, celebrate or anoint." The hands held in
union signify the oneness of an apparently dual cosmos, the
bringing together of spirit and matter, or the self meeting the
Self. It has been said that the right hand represents the higher
nature or that which is divine in us, while the left hand
represents the lower, worldly nature.

In Sanskrit "Namas" means, "bow, obeisance, reverential
salutation." It comes from the root Nam, which carries meanings
of bending, bowing, humbly submitting and becoming silent. "Te"
means "to you." Thus "namaste" means "I bow to you." the act of
greeting is called "Namaskaram," "Namaskara" and "Namaskar" in
the varied languages of the subcontinent.

Namaste has become a veritable icon of what is Bharatiye. Indeed,
there must be a Bharatiye law which requires every travel
brochure. calendar and poster to include an image of someone with
palms pressed together, conveying to the world Bharat's
hospitality, spirituality and graceful consciousness. You knew
all that, of course, but perhaps you did not know that there can
be subtle ways of enhancing the gesture, as in the West one might
shake another's hand too strongly to impress and overpower them
or too briefly, indicating the withholding of genuine welcome.

In the case of Namaste, a deeper veneration is sometimes
expressed by bringing the fingers of the clasped palms to the
forehead, where they touch the brow, the site of the mystic Third
Eye. A third form of namaste brings the palms completely above
the head, a gesture said to focus consciousness in the subtle
space just above the Brahma-randhra, the aperture in the Crown
Chakr(a). This form is so full of reverence it is reserved for
the Almighty and the holiest of Sat Guru(s).

It is always interesting, often revealing and occasionally
enlightening to muse about the everyday cultural traits and
habits each nation and community evolves, for in the little
things our Big ideas About Life find direct and personal
expression. Take, for instance, the different ways that American
and Japanese tool-makers approach the same task. A saw for
cutting lumber, if designed in the U.S., is made in such a way
that the carpenter's stroke away from his body does the cutting.
But in japan saws are engineered so that cutting takes place as
the carpenter draws the saw toward himself. A small detail, but
it yields a big difference.

The American saw can, if leaned into, generate more power, while
the Japanese saw provides more control and refinement in the cut,
requiring surprisingly less effort. Each has its place in the
global toolbox. each speaks -- like the handshake and namaste
greetings -- of an underlying perception of man's relationship
with things.

In the West we are outgoing, forceful, externalized. We are told
by Ma bell to "reach out and touch somebody." We are unabashedly
acquisitive, defining our progress in life by how much we have --
how much wealth, influence, stored up knowledge, status or
whatever. Every culture exhibits these traits to some extent, but
in the east Mother is there to remind us, "Reach in and touch the
Self." here we are taught to be more introspective, more
concerned with the quality of things than their quantity, more
attuned with the interior dimension of life.

So, there you have it, the whole of Eastern and Western culture
summed up in the handshake which reaches out horizontally to
greet another, and Namaste which reaches in vertically to
acknowledge that, in truth, that there is no other.

As a test of how these two greetings differ, imagine you are
magically confronted with the Divine. The Paramatma, Almighty,
walks up to you on the street. What do you do? reach out to shake
His hand? Probably not. Though suitable between man and man, it;'
an unseemly expression between man and Paramatma. We never shake
hands with paramatma. I mean, what if your palms are sweating?

So you namaste instead. the reason it feels natural to namaste
before Paramatma is that it is, in its very essence, a spiritual
gesture, not a worldly one. By a handshake we acknowledge our
equality with others. We reveal our humanity. We convey how
strong we are, how nervous, how aggressive or passive. There is
bold physicality to it. For these and other reasons, Popes never
shake hands. Kings never shake hands. Even mothers don't shake
hands with their own children.

Namaste is cosmically different. Kings do namaste, Sat Guru(s)
namaste and mothers namaste to their own family. We all namaste
before the Almighty, a holy man or even a holy place. The namaste
gesture bespeaks our inner valuing of the sacredness of all. It
betokens our intuition that all souls are divine, in their
essence. It reminds us in quite a graphic manner, and with
insistent repetition, that we can see Paramatma everywhere and in
every human being we meet. It is saying, silently, "I see the
Deity in us both, and bow before Him or Her. I acknowledge the
holiness of even this mundane meeting. I cannot separate that
which is spiritual in us from that which is human and ordinary."

And while we are singing the praises of Namaste, it should be
observed how efficient a gesture it is in an age of mass
communication. A politician, or performer can greet fifty
thousand people with a single Namaste, and they can return the
honor instantly. In such a situation a handshake is unthinkable
and a mere waving of one hand is somehow too frivolous.

There are other, more mystical meanings behind Namaste. The nerve
current of the body converge in the feet, the solar plexus and
the hands. Psychic energy leaves the body at these junctures. To
"ground" that energy and balance the flow of Pran(a) streaming
through the nerve system, Yogi(s) cross their legs in the lotus
posture, and bring their hands together. The Anjali Mudra acts
like a simple Yog(ic) Asan(a), balancing and harmonizing our
energies, keeping us centered, inwardly poised and mentally
protected. It closes our aura, shielding us psychically. It keeps
us from becoming too externalized, thus we remain close to our
intuitive nature, our super consciousness.

Here are some insights into Namaste from a number of Hindu(s):

o Namaste elevates one's consciousness, reminding one that all
beings, all existence is holy, is the Almighty. It
communicates, "I honor or worship the Divinity within you."
Also it draws the individual inward for a moment, inspires
reflection on the deeper realities, softening the interface
between people. It would be difficult or offend or feel
animosity toward any one you greet as Paramatma.

o Namaste is a gesture of friendship and kindness, also of
thanks or special recognition. Mystically it is called
"Namaskara Mudra" in the Agami(c) Pooja, and it centers one's
energy within the spine.

o I've heard it means "I salute the Almighty within you." The
true Namaste gesture is is accompanied by bowing the head and
shoulders slightly. This is a gesture that lessens our sense
of ego and self-centeredness, requiring some humility to do it
well -- whereas shaking hands can be quite an arrogant event.

o Touching the hands together puts you in touch with your
center, your soul. namaste puts you forward as a soul, not an
outer personality.

o The gesture has a subtle effect on the aura and nerve system.
bringing focused attention and a collection of one's forces,
so to speak. It also protects against unnecessary psychic
connections which are fostered by shaking hands. This might be
called a form of purity also -- protecting one's energies.

This form of acknowledgment is so lovely, so graceful. Just
look at two people in Namaste and you will see so much human
beauty and refinement.
Science editor
MSNBC
Updated: 9:36 p.m. ET Nov. 17, 2005

SEATTLE - When you're recounting the drama of cosmic origins, the show must go on — even if you're a quadriplegic recovering from a medical crisis.

At least that was the theatrical rule that world-famous physicist Stephen Hawking followed this week, in the wake of a medical episode that kept him and his entourage from traveling to Seattle for a sold-out lecture on the origins of the universe.

Wednesday's appearance at the Paramount Theatre — presented by the Oregon-based Institute for Science, Engineering and Public Policy, or ISEPP — was the last of three scheduled stops on the Cambridge professor's U.S. lecture tour. Hawking, who suffers from a progressive neurodegenerative disease that has almost completely paralyzed him, was due to travel to Seattle from San Francisco. But when he was taken off his respirator Monday morning, "he basically flat-lined," said Terry Bristol, ISEPP's president and executive director.

"They had to resuscitate, and that panicked a few people," Bristol told the audience. "But he's been there before."

Once the crisis had passed, Hawking wanted to go ahead with the Seattle leg of the trip, but his medical caretakers — including his wife, Elaine — thought he should stay put awhile longer, Bristol said. So Hawking and his aides worked with Intel, ISEPP and the Paramount to set up a Web-based teleconferencing link from a Bay Area hotel.

At the appointed time, after a couple of minutes of video-display fiddling, Hawking's image flashed onto the large screen set up over the Paramount's stage — setting off a round of applause. Then the physicist dove right into a split-screen multimedia presentation that traced the development of theories on cosmic origins, beginning with African creation myths.

Beginning of time
Was the universe eternal, or did it have a beginning? A key turning point came in the 1920s, when astronomer Edwin Hubble observed other galaxies and concluded that the universe was expanding. Hawking said Hubble's finding was "one of the most important intellectual discoveries of the 20th century, or any century."

That cleared the way for the current view that the universe began with a Big Bang — but it didn't clear up the scientific controversy.

"Many scientists were still unhappy with the universe having a beginning, because it seemed to imply that physics broke down," Hawking said. "One would have to invoke an outside agency, which for convenience one can call God, to determine how the universe began."

Hawking traced how scientists have tried to address that conundrum using quantum theory, inflationary Big Bang theory and observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation — sometimes known as the Big Bang's "afterglow."

He sketched out a view in which "time can behave like another direction in space under extreme conditions." As an example, he used the oft-cited example of reaching the South Pole, then trying to point even further south. In the same way, the beginning of the universe followed the same laws of physics that applied to every other point in space-time, but it would not be possible to point to a time before the Big Bang, he argued.

"The beginning of the universe would be covered by science," he said.

Later, he said that science was making inroads on questions that had once been exclusively the province of religion.

"The one remaining area that religion can now lay claim to is the origin of the universe," Hawking said, "but even here, science is making progress and should soon provide a definitive answer to how the universe began."

Ability despite disability
Part of Hawking's appeal has to do with his sheer ability to carry on despite his disability. The substance of the talk wasn't new to readers of popular books on cosmology — including Hawking's own updated classic, "A Briefer History of Time" — and many in the audience likely came more to get a glimpse of the man in person. For that reason, the event's organizers did offer ticket refunds.

Nowadays, the physicist controls his computerized voice system using a blink-activated infrared system embedded in his eyeglasses. To set off each section of his prepared text, he blinks an eye, slightly scrunching up his cheek in the process. He can employ the same system to compose answers on the fly — although Wednesday's presentation was completely prepared in advance.

Despite the teleconferenced video and the flat tone of Hawking's synthesized computer voice, his outspokenness and humor shone through as lively as ever. The highlight was a recap of Hawking's favorite answers to frequently asked questions — some of which drew so much applause from the Seattle crowd that Bristol, the master of ceremonies, occasionally had to repeat the answers. Some examples:

What did he think of "The Simpsons" TV show, which has had Hawking as an animated guest star? "It's the best thing on American TV."
What was his view of the Bush administration's limits on human embryonic stem-cell research: "America will be left behind if it doesn't change policy."
What did he think of the program to send American astronauts back to the moon? "Stupid," he answered. "Sending politicians would be much cheaper, because you don't have to bring them back."
How high is Hawking's IQ? The physicist replied that he didn't know. "People who boast about their IQ are losers," he said.
Which late personage would he rather meet, Isaac Newton or Marilyn Monroe? "Marilyn," Hawking said. "Newton seems to have been an unpleasant character."

hey all,
just wanted to give you a heads up on a pretty stylin event happening this saturday, oct 8, in Tofino. Called Rise Up for Your Roots 3.

This event is being hosted by Joshua James and all proceeds will go to the Friends of Clayquot Sound. This is the 3rd annual (as you may have guessed by the 3).

The previous years have been a smashing success, where Josh has combined musicians from the community and abroad.

This years celebrations will be nothing less than bloody amazing, and i dont mean that in a villianous way either!

The event goes from 6pm-6am and for a meager 15$, you will be fed with the most amazing food, a mariad of fine musical talents (Adham Shaike, Greenery, Kevin West, Breakfluid, Zachary and me. Nori- www.area709.com ) and then Brother Joshua will tell the story of the Crystal Palace!

For full flyer details you can view it at http://www.tribalharmonix.org/forums/read.php?2,65429

I hope to see some of your smiling, giggling and hyper-funky faces there.

The attendees, who included such fashion icons as Jessica "Darling" H., Neil "World Famous" P., Jonny "Get me that model's number!" B, Darcy "Can I borrow that?" K, and Alex "I can stand at the back and get a better view than anyone" S, were seen madly trying to take notes while simultaneously applauding for Stary's entire showing. Now that Miss Stary has struck with her first line, the fashion world can only sit and fidget in anticipation to see what this new and rising star has in store next. Congratulations to Lisa for producing such beautiful attire and a year of hard work!

wow, leave internet for two days and look at all that materializes.
Definitely need to figure out our grey water situation, we can talk at shambles. I've been pondering but haven't put any serious time into the matter...yet, been a little sidetracked...

Tuula! Of course anything and everything I have is shareable with you, no worries sista. Coffee is indeed a good idea, i'll bring some from guate too! Caitlin and I aren't leaving until late monday night or tuesday maybe, no way i'm participating in the insanity of monday afternoon exhaust infested lineup to sweat my balls off...again. I'm taking her to Reno to catch a flight and then i'm heading down to southern Cali for a conference on native wisdom and natural healing, so won't be heading back to the canadian coast until sept. 12th or so. I forget what day you said you were flying in, but if you're ahead of the RV's ETA, I can plan to get you. I want to be on the playa to see the gong show assemble itself from the get-go if possible.

"Rounding the Bases"
Rounding the bases is a group of slang terms dealing with sexual activities, borrowing terms from baseball. There are often variant definitions, but most criteria are similar.
Home run (or "Hitting it out of the park", etc.; sometimes "Fourth Base") - Sexual intercourse.
Grand Slam - Being a player/anal sex.
A common mnemonic device for the bases is "french, feel, finger, fuck."
